Bloomington Indiana circa 1915

Bloomington Indiana circa 1915,
College Ave (on the court house square), looking north.
This photo was taken right about the time cars started replacing hors & carriage transportation mode.
Note the parking regulations, horses parked on the inner side of the square,
cars on the outer side.
Note the old lady with the baby walking in the square.

This is the original black and white photo I worked off of.
The photo is one out of 15 colorized photos that where featured in
my first full colorized exhibition "Living in Color" at the
"Monroe County Historical society" museum.
photo Courtesy of the "Mathers museum" and the " Monroe county historical society".
catalog number: 1988.109.0269

Here is a recreation of the photo with the same view as it looks today.

The "Obelisk" looking object in the center of the photo is a water fountain for passers bye
donated by a woman's organization to the city so that man will be drinking less alcohol.
It was moved but it still stands in the square today.
